Indians fall to Liberty, but hang tough<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

EAST MARLBOROUGH \u2014 Unionville High School\u2019s girls basketball team just couldn\u2019t get shots to drop as it fell to Liberty, 56-49, in the consolation game of its own holiday tournament, Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Junior center Micayla Flores pumped in 17 points for the Indians (4-5) (and earned all-tournament team honors), but the young squad struggled to hit open shots, in what proved to be a fast-paced battle with the Hurricanes.<\/p>\n

Unlike Friday, when the Indians started out cold against Haverford \u2014 which fell to Central Bucks East in the championship final \u2014 they came out much stronger in the early going and signaled they would battle all game.<\/p>\n

Although trailing 11-6 after one quarter, Unionville was able to adapt to quicker game \u2014 Flores\u2019 eight points in the second quarter, as well as four each from freshman Maddie Shanahan and her sister, junior Lexi Shanahan helped keep pace, as the Indians fought to keep it a six-point game at the half, 29-23.<\/p>\n

The third was much of the same, especially when some outside shots began to fall for the Indians. Adrianna Weber hit a pair of threes in the quarter, scoring all of her seven points in the quarter.<\/p>\n

The young Indians hung in, and closed to within 53-49, in the final minutes but couldn\u2019t get over the hump. Flores, again, had a strong quarter, adding six points from the line, as she made Liberty pay for fouls.<\/p>\n

Casey Scheuer bounced back from an injury at the end of the first half to add six points in the losing effort.<\/p>\n
