The graduates completed a 10-week course that included 174 hours of instruction at the Chester County Fire School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re happy to have Corey, Bas and Chuck as members of Longwood,\u201d said Chief A. J. McCarthy. \u201cThey are dedicated firefighters. We\u2019re looking for additional individuals to become firefighters, and we have a lot of non-firefighting tasks that need to be done. I\u2019m urging interested persons to join Corey, Bas, Chuck and the rest of our dedicated team here at Longwood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Denton lives in Pennsbury and became interested in the fire company after some of his friends became members. \u201cThey told me what they did,\u201d Denton said. \u201cI joined and soon realized I didn\u2019t want to do anything else. The training I received was fun, and the information I received might save lives one day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Vries is a resident of Newlin and joined Longwood Fire Company as a way to give back to his community. \u201cI was intrigued with firefighting,\u201d de Vries said. \u201cThe fire school was a great way to learn all of the basics of firefighting. I\u2019ve already used the skills I learned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simmers moved to Kennett Square recently from Delaware and has been a member of Longwood for the past six month. \u201cI picked Longwood because they are more than just an engine company,\u201d Simmers said. \u201cThe instructors at the school showed us how to do our job, be safe and go home to our friends and families after calls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Longwood Fire Company has served the communities of Kennett, East Marlborough, Pennsbury and Pocopson townships since 1921. Longwood Fire Company provides fire and rescue and emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
