Andy Dinniman (D-19)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>WEST CHESTER \u2013 State Senator Andy Dinniman announced today that seven bridges in Chester County are scheduled for repair and rehabilitation this spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeeping our bridges strong and sound is not only a matter of public safety, it\u2019s also vital to the success of our transportation system and the growth of our economy,\u201d Dinniman said. \u201cI support investing in these infrastructure repairs and am pleased to announce that the work will begin soon.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The seven bridges are as follows: the Pughtown Road Bridge over a branch of the French Creek in East Vincent Township; the Valley Park Road Bridge over a branch of the Pickering Creek in Schuylkill Township; the Sugartown Road Bridge over a branch of the Darby Creek in Easttown Township; the Hopewell Road Bridge over a branch of the Tweed Creek in East Nottingham Township; the Brandywine Creek Road Bridges over Buck Run and Doe Run in Newlin Township; the Swineheart Road Bridge over Beaver Creek in West Brandywine Township; and the Little Washington Road Bridge over Culbertson Run in East Brandywine Township.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has categorized these seven Chester County bridges as structurally deficient. That means that while the bridges are deemed safe, one or more of their major components have deteriorated and are in need of repair,\u201d Dinniman said.<\/p>\n<p>Rehabilitation work calls for replacing earthen fill with concrete, reinforcing spandrel walls, installing moment slab with concrete core parapets, reconstructing and repairing the substructure, replacing guiderails and improving scour protection.<\/p>\n<p>These seven bridges, in addition to the MacDade Boulevard Bridge in Ridley Township, Delaware County, will be rehabilitated under a $7,488,752 contract the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently awarded to J.D. Eckman of Atglen.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to begin this spring and finish in April 2014.
