{"id":15063,"date":"2013-04-14T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2013-04-14T10:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=15063"},"modified":"2013-04-13T09:02:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-13T13:02:25","slug":"thinning-the-fashion-herd-is-harder-than-it-should-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=15063","title":{"rendered":"Thinning the fashion herd is harder than it should be"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Spring cleaning offers the chance to cut back, but it can be tough<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>By Kelly Hockenberry<\/strong>, <em><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Columnist, The Times<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/UTNuKellyColumn1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-15066\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" alt=\"UTNuKellyColumn\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/UTNuKellyColumn1-250x300.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/UTNuKellyColumn1-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/UTNuKellyColumn1-83x100.jpg 83w, https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/UTNuKellyColumn1.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a>The sudden burst of springtime weather brings many lovely things: open windows, blooming flowers, iced coffee.\u00a0 Perfection.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Debbie Downer in me would also like to point out that it brings yucky things like: stink bugs by the thousands, the \u201csmell\u201d of mushrooms and the dreaded \u201cchanging of the closet\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For as much as I love clothes, I truly hate having to pack away sweaters, coats and boots. \u00a0Not only is it a tedious chore, but it really should turn into an opportunity to purge. \u00a0I am not very good at that part.\u00a0 (shocker)<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For example, I have a big, chunky cream turtleneck sweater that gives me hives when I wear it.\u00a0 But what did I do?\u00a0 I packed it away\u2026as if next winter I will magically not be allergic to wool. \u00a0I have five pairs of skinny, black corduroy pants.\u00a0 I alternate between two.\u00a0 But what did I do?\u00a0 I packed away five.\u00a0 I NEVER WORE seven shirts that STILL HAVE TAGS ON THEM.\u00a0 But what did I do?\u00a0 I packed them.\u00a0 Because maybe next year I will (no, I won\u2019t).<\/p>\n<p>I struggle with getting rid of these clothes because what happens if I find the perfect opportunity to wear them and they are gone?\u00a0 Which never happens, I might add.\u00a0 And, let\u2019s face it\u2026.if presented with that true fashion emergency, I will just go out and buy something anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The reality is, (and this is the part where my husband throws up his hands in exasperation) if I took the chance and donated or consigned these superfluous items,\u00a0 I would probably notice all of the pieces I ALREADY have and wouldn\u2019t need to panic that I have nothing to wear. \u00a0It would force organization and simplification resulting in elevated levels of contentment.<\/p>\n<p>Light bulb moment????????<\/p>\n<p>Nah.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve already finished putting it away.\u00a0 Maybe next year\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Weekend!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spring cleaning offers the chance to cut back, but it can be tough By Kelly Hockenberry, Columnist, The Times The sudden burst of springtime weather brings many lovely things: open windows, blooming flowers, iced coffee.\u00a0 Perfection.
