2000 grad a member of award-winning quartet Halestorm<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Even if Unionville High Band Director Scott Litzenberg had time to watch the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, he would not have known that one of his former students, Joe Hottinger, took the stage.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the Best Hard Rock\/Metal Performance Award preceded the telecast portion of the ceremony in Los Angeles. So when one of Litzenberg\u2019s colleagues, whose son kept up with the 30-year-old rocker, shared the news that the group Halestorm won, Litzenberg was surprised and delighted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had heard he was playing in the band, but did not know about the Grammy nomination,\u201d Litzenberg said.<\/p>\n

Hottinger, a 2000 Unionville grad, played guitar in the high school\u2019s jazz band and played tenor in the marching band\u2019s drumline. In 2003, he joined Halestorm, a Pennsylvania quartet started by a brother-sister team from Red Lion. Arejay and Elizabeth “Lzzy” Hale have been playing together since 1997.<\/p>\n

The group is known for its strong work ethic and demanding tour schedule, according to published reports.
