Chocolate? Flowers? Meh. Tory Burch? Now you have my attention<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"UTNuKellyColumn\"<\/a>This is the first year that neither of my boys will be handing out Valentine cards at school.<\/p>\n

The thought of it actually creates a lump in my throat.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to miss forcing them to sit at the dining room table, NEATLY signing their names (SO AS NOT TO RESEMBLE A SERIAL KILLER) after explaining, time after time, why it is mandatory to hand one to EVERY child in the class\u2026even the GIRLS (who have cooties, obviously).<\/p>\n

Now that they are in the middle and high school, I can only hope that they will at least wear red on February 14th<\/sup>.\u00a0 (Seriously?\u00a0 Who am I kidding?)<\/p>\n

I do love the concept of Valentine\u2019s Day and choose to ignore those who consider it a \u201cHallmark\u201d occasion.\u00a0 Although, ironically, I get mad if my husband buys me a card (which costs $5 and I throw away) or flowers (which cost $50 and DIE in two days) or chocolate (please. How is chocolate any different on this day from any other regular day when I eat it as I\u2019m preparing dinner?)<\/p>\n

I must admit that I do prefer a REAL gift (as opposed to the clever \u201cTicket Book of Hugs\u201d or \u201cCoupons for Free Kisses\u201d or some other nonsense).\u00a0 I think the Valentine\u2019s Day gift should reflect how much you love someone.\u00a0 Put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.<\/p>\n

Materialistic?\u00a0 Perhaps.\u00a0 But, let\u2019s be honest\u2026.do you want a construction paper heart with an \u201cI.O.U. a nice dinner out\u201d?\u00a0 Heck no.\u00a0 That is bogus.<\/p>\n

Any one of the aforementioned choices screams \u201cLOVE\u201d to me!\u00a0 And, all three wrapped in a gift basket means that you REALLY, REALLY love me!<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so happy that the timing of this article gives my husband plenty of time to rush out to the mall!<\/p>\n
