Hannum served as master of the hunt for more than half a century; her love for fox-hunting is said to have fueled her many open-space initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->According to a news release from the Historical Society, the film, directed by Christianna Hannum Miller, Hannum\u2019s granddaughter, includes footage from the Chester County Historical Society&#8217;s film archives, as well as still photographs. The title comes from the famous \u201cCheshire Beauties,&#8221; the pack of foxhounds bred by Hannum, and from a song featured in the film.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12609\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?attachment_id=12609\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12609\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12609\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12609\" style=\"border-width: 2px; border-color: black; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;\" title=\"IMG_1105\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_1105-300x290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Goodnight Ladies&#8221; pays tribute to the late Nancy Penn Smith Hannum, a master of the hunt and pioneer of Chester County conservation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWith \u2018Goodnight Ladies,\u2019 I was able to condense and shape a very personal film into a more traditional picture of my grandmother,\u201d said Miller.\u00a0 \u201cThis shorter film is about the joy of the human spirit and a woman who never stopped believing in what she stood for.\u00a0 In \u2018Goodnight Ladies,\u2019 I show the grandmother I remember, speeding down country roads in her battered Jeep.\u00a0 Gran was passionate about her grandchildren, and this film is for them, and for their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film, shot on 16 mmm film by award-winning cinematographer David W. Leitner begins with Hannum\u2019s reading of her own prematurely published obituary \u2013 \u201cWasn\u2019t that worth for not dying for to be able to read that,\u201d she says with a chuckle.\u00a0Leitner\u2019s credits include his 1990 Oscar-nominated \u201cFor All Mankind,\u201d which also won the 1989 Sundance Jury &amp; Audience Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary continues Hannum\u2019s enduring legacy. In 2011, she received the Fifth Annual Rebecca Lukens Award from the Graystone Society for her tireless conservation efforts. The 100<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Mr. Stewart\u2019s Cheshire Foxhounds has included a series of lectures and a recent gala at Longwood Gardens.\u00a0Mr. Stewart\u2019s Cheshire Foxhounds was founded in 1912 by Nancy Hannum\u2019s step-father, Plunket Stewart, who married Hannum\u2019s mother, Carol Harriman, after Hannum\u2019s father died of pneumonia at 35.<\/p>\n<p>The original project, \u201cKeeping Sound,\u201d was awarded a grant from the Eastman Kodak Company in order to shoot the project on 16 mm film.\u00a0 \u201cGoodnight Ladies\u201d is intended for film festivals, public television and classrooms nationwide.\u00a0\u201cGoodnight Ladies\u201d was made through the support of individual donors and the New York Foundation for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Just in time for the holidays, the film is available at the Chester County Historical Society gift shop for $28. In fact, the museum is offering an incentive on Black Friday for visitors who choose to avoid the shopping chaos of the malls.
