In addition to the 3.1-mile course, which participants can run or walk, The Lemon Run is a family-friendly event, which includes a kids\u2019 dash and includes the participation of several childhood cancer heroes and their families. Winners in each age group will be recognized as part of an awards ceremony at the end of the race along with top fund-raising teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lemon Run has truly become one of Alex\u2019s Lemonade Stand Foundation\u2019s signature events,\u201d said Jay Scott, father of Foundation creator Alexandra \u201cAlex\u201d Scott. \u201cThis athletic fund-raising event brings out runners, walkers and supporters of the battle against childhood cancer. The morning of the Lemon Run has proven to be one of my favorites as the entire childhood cancer community comes to run for a cure, some even donning lemon costumes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12355\" style=\"width: 302px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?attachment_id=12355\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12355\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12355\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12355 \" style=\"border-width: 2px; border-color: black; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Image 6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Image-6-292x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"292\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Troy Davis of Coatesville wants to beat Jay Scott in the Lemon Run \u2013 as well as pediatric cancer.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One local participant,\u00a0Troy Davis of Coatesville, has taken the \u00a0fighting spirit to heart. Davis, who has been cancer-free for \u00a0one year and is participating on the Northwestern Mutual Team, is challenging Alex\u2019s dad Jay Scott to see who can finish the 5K first. The winner pledges to \u00a0contribute to the other\u2019s fund-raising effort \u2013 as well as to revel in bragging rights.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s daughter Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was 4 when she set up her first lemonade stand to fund cancer research and raised $2,000 in one day. As news of her valiant \u2013 and productive \u2013 efforts spread, others joined the cause. In 2004, when Alex died at age 8, she had raised over $1 million towards finding a cure for the disease that took her life.<\/p>\n<p>The following year, her parents, Jay and Liz, started the Alex\u2019s Lemonade Stand Foundation to continue her empowering work and legacy. To date, Alex\u2019s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $55 million toward fulfilling Alex\u2019s dream of finding a cure, funding over 250 research projects nationally.<\/p>\n<p>Check-in on Sunday begins at 7a.m. The kids\u2019 dash will start at 8 a.m. , and the 5K Run\/Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. \u00a0Participants are encouraged to register in advance to receive the reduced rate of $30 per person and $15 per child (ages 10 and under), but can also register on the day of the event.
