{"id":1202,"date":"2011-01-03T15:06:42","date_gmt":"2011-01-03T20:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unionvilletimes.com\/?p=1202"},"modified":"2011-01-03T15:06:42","modified_gmt":"2011-01-03T20:06:42","slug":"birmingham-supports-continued-mapping-of-battlefield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unionvilletimes.com\/?p=1202","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham supports continued mapping of battlefield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong><em>Agrees to issue letter of support for Chester County effort to seek grant funds<\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>By Mike McGann<\/strong>, <span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em>Editor, UnionvilleTimes.com<\/em><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Birmingham.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1203\" style=\"border: 2px solid navy; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Birmingham\" src=\"http:\/\/unionvilletimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Birmingham-283x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>BIRMINGHAM \u2014 The township\u2019s board of supervisors agreed Monday to support a Chester County effort to get grant funding to continue mapping of the Brandywine Battlefield, a large portion of which is in the township.<\/p>\n<p>The board met briefly to reorganize Monday at midday \u2014 and other than paying bills, the request for a letter of support for the battlefield was the lone item of business on a sparse agenda.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Although board members seemed a bit hesitant to commit any financial resources at this point, especially as there are a couple of different groups working on different fronts to preserve areas of the battlefield, supervisor chair John Conklin noted that \u201cat least at the county level, it can be properly coordinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the work, supervisors noted, has been very good to date. Supervisor Al Bush said that the feedback he\u2019s gotten says that the mapping work done to date has been \u201cimpressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the Brandywine Battlefield Museum is in neighboring Chadds Ford, the main battle was actually fought in the township, in the immediate vicinity of the Township Building. The entire battlefield area encompasses six townships in two counties.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, the John Conklin was reelected as chair of the board of Supervisors, while William Kirkpatrick was reelected as vice chair.
