With cooler weather, time to put away those summer fashions<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Fall is my favorite season!<\/p>\n

But, there is always a damper to the start of the season with the dreaded \u201cCHANGING OF THE CLOSET\u201d.<\/p>\n

For my children, the dip in temperatures simply means a hoodie thrown over what they would wear in July.<\/p>\n

NOT SO for Momma.<\/p>\n

It is a daunting task because, not only does it require switching out tank tops for sweaters, it also means packing up flip-flops and replacing them with boots.<\/p>\n

Inevitably, the conclusion of my closet transition results in ungodly warm temperatures that baffle weathermen.\u00a0 It happens every year.<\/p>\n

But, THIS is the weekend, people! \u00a0There is frost on the ground and no more excuses!<\/p>\n

Where to begin?\u00a0 (with a HUGE cup of coffee in hand, naturally)<\/p>\n

I usually start with tops.\u00a0 I fold and put away anything with a summery fabric.\u00a0 Eyelet, linen, super thin cotton\u2026while these options can be appropriately layered under blazers, I find if I don\u2019t pack them away now, they end up taking valuable space.\u00a0 My husband would like to interject that this sentence is indicative of the fact that I have too much.\u00a0 But, unfortunately for him, this is MY column and his opinions carry very little weight.<\/p>\n

I always fold my sweaters so that they are not misshapen at the shoulder.\u00a0 I even go so far as to separate and organize by color.\u00a0 While this sounds incredibly neurotic, it makes life MUCH easier when you go to look for a black cardigan.<\/p>\n

Pants.\u00a0 Again, anything in a lighter weight fabric is put away.\u00a0 If my articles over the summer didn\u2019t inspire you to donate your \u201ccapri\u201d pants, now is the time to do it! By next Spring\/Summer you will be brainwashed into selecting a more flattering option J<\/p>\n

I will admit that it is painful for me to let go of my flip-flops\u2026but, it\u2019s time.\u00a0 Take inventory of the boots that you have.\u00a0 If you are lacking in any particular style, RUN don\u2019t walk to your favorite shoe store!\u00a0 Boots fly off the shelves at an incredibly fast rate.\u00a0 Do not kid yourself that you will be able to find something around Christmastime.\u00a0 That is delusional thinking.\u00a0 Also, polish your boots from last season.\u00a0 Not only will they look fantastic, they will be protected from the elements.<\/p>\n

When I transition my closet, I also take the opportunity to throw away any summery cosmetics.\u00a0 Buy a new mascara, switch to a darker, more pigmented lipstick (oxblood is all the rage!), etc.\u00a0 Invest in a few new autumnal-colored nail polishes.\u00a0 These small changes will correlate beautifully with your fall fashions.<\/p>\n

Well, off to start this project!\u00a0 Wish me luck\u2026more importantly, wish the rest of my family luck.\u00a0 I am not very pleasant through this process.<\/p>\n
