ASTON \u2014 To a man, Unionville knew that Sun Valley was a better team in 2012 than it had seen in the last couple of seasons.<\/p>\n

Indians head coach Pat Clark, no stranger to Delaware County football himself (he played and coached there before coming to Unionville nine seasons ago) when asked about the program, immediately brought up the powerhouse Vanguard teams from the middle of last decade and the school\u2019s excellent football tradition.<\/p>\n

If the cold, blustery night Friday night proved anything, it\u2019s this: you can\u2019t take anyone lightly or you will pay.<\/p>\n

Unionville escaped with a hard-fought 49-34 win over Sun Valley \u2014 meaning that it controls its fate in the ChesMont American: win out, and the Indians will be league champs. But next week\u2019s game at Great Valley \u2014 depending on the outcomes of Patriots\u2019 battle with Kennett \u2014 could be even tougher Friday night\u2019s contest, as the much-improved Great Valley is 4-2.<\/p>\n

It was a big win, but it wasn\u2019t easy. The Indians (5-2, 3-0) were down 28-21 in the third quarter before finally taking control. Senior QB Tom Pancoast had another strong game, running for 200 yards and three TD, throwing for two more, scoring passes to Tim Christopher and Patch Johnson and returning an interception for another score.<\/p>\n

But Pancoast wasn\u2019t alone, senior running back Brad Pechin, who seems to be finding his rhythm ran for 120 yards and a TD and a defense that stiffened when needed in the second half combined to put the game away.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
