The bigger the better.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make-up:<\/strong> Approximately 7 layers of Maybelline Very Black mascara. Blue eyeliner. Black liner in the rim of the eyelid.\u00a0 Lots of pink blush.\u00a0 Bonnie Bell lip gloss.\u00a0 Anais Anais sprayed liberally.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shoes:<\/strong> Probably an inch or inch and a half heel. Hideous (as documented in pictures).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outfit:<\/strong> Dress decided WEEKS (perhaps months) in advance. Cross referenced with all of my friends to ensure no chance of duplication. \u201cShort\u201d (which, in those days, meant hovering ever so closely above the knee.\u00a0 In other words, Grandmother length to the girls of 2012).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approximate Time to Get Ready for the Dance: <\/strong>2 hours.\u00a0 Early dismissal from school was a necessity, naturally.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Popular Songs: <\/strong>Every Rose Has Its Thorn-Poison, Bust a Move-Young M.C., Girl, You Know It\u2019s True-Milli Vanilli<!--more--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kelly, as the mother of a male, Unionville Freshman, Circa 2012-(double wince)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Son\u2019s Hair:<\/strong> Military crop, limited product (aka-if I can spray hairspray in his direction without him dodging me). Essentially, out of the shower and good to go.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shoes:<\/strong> After much negotiation, NO high top sneakers.\u00a0 Perhaps Sperry Topsiders? This could be the issue that results in screaming\/threating words.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outfit: <\/strong>Button down shirt, holding out hope for a tie (?) and sweater vest (???).\u00a0 Let me remind you, we are approximately six hours from the start of the dance and still undecided. \u00a0And, he has NO idea what his friends are wearing.\u00a0 How is this possible??? (Pray for me)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approximate Time to Get Ready for the Dance:<\/strong> Time it takes to shower (which is usually until the hot water runs out). \u00a0Envelope himself in a cloud of Axe Midnight Essence.\u00a0 Brush teeth.\u00a0 Out the door.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Popular Songs:<\/strong> Whistle, Flo Rida, Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen, Gangnam Style, PSY<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have commiserated with several girlfriends about how different it is to be surrounded by boys when it comes to events like Homecoming.\u00a0 My son is anxious to attend and has a group of kids coming over beforehand to have pizza and hangout\u2026.but, it doesn\u2019t have the same intensity.\u00a0 I think that he would care less if the dance were suddenly to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Times like these call for me to squelch my girlie-girl personality.\u00a0 I need to cope with the fact that boys have different ideas about the significance of the FIRST HIGH SCHOOL DANCE EVER!!! (Hold Me Closer Tiny Dancer, how is it possible that my baby is going to a high school dance?)<\/p>\n<p>See?\u00a0 I\u2019m struggling.\u00a0 But, I will survive.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Homecoming Weekend!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s all the same right?
