Get ready to ditch those unwanted drugs safely, keeping them from entering our water supply or ending up in the hands of potential abusers.
Saturday is the Fourth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Kennett Square police will accept unwanted, expired, and unused prescription drugs with no questions asked at the station, 115 N. Broad St. in Kennett Square. Other area disposal sites include the state police Avondale barracks, 2 Moxley Lane, in London Grove Township, and the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department, 1580 Paoli Pike in West Chester.
During the last Take-Back Day in October, Americans turned in more than 188 tons of medication, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. It’s a response the agency would like to repeat on Saturday. “The amount of prescription drugs turned in by the American public during the past three Take-Back Day events speaks volumes about the need to develop a convenient way to rid homes of unwanted or expired prescription drugs,” said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart in a news release. “DEA remains hard at work to establish just such a drug disposal process, and will continue to offer take-back opportunities until the proper regulations are in place.”
Parents need to stop and make sure they dispose of old medicines and take advantage of this day. Many wouldn’t believe that kids abuse pills. Sometimes parents are unknowingly their own child’s drug dealer with these unattended pills. Many think their kids won’t turn to heroin because their kid would never do drugs with a needle (you don’t have to.) Teen addicts in treatment tell myteensavers that they often did not have the anti-drug message reinforced in the home. They also say home drug testing would have caught experimentation before it became addiction. Please take part in this event!
