EAST MARLBOROUGH — Liam Gallagher, Upland Country Day School’s Director of Making and Doing, was recently selected as an Axalta All-Pro Teacher. The Philadelphia Eagles and Axalta Coating Systems developed the All-Pro Teacher platform to recognize outstanding teachers (6th – 12th grade) in the tri-state area for their contribution to their students, school and community. Gallagher was nominated and selected for this award for his outstanding leadership and his direction of Upland’s IDEA Center. His classes focus on design thinking to help students better understand the needs of their peers, their community at large, and to empower them to be a global citizen. Most recently, 7th grade students have been working with the Brandywine River Museum & Conservancy to learn about the importance of environmental conservation in Chester County while designing an art project to share their thoughts with a wider audience.

As one of the ten teachers given the All-Pro honor in 2018 out of hundreds of applicants, Liam and Upland received a $2,000 donation for supplies and programming, four tickets to last Sunday’s Eagles home game, and an Eagles jersey. At an awards reception in December, one of the nominees will be named Teacher of the Year, winning an additional $5,000 donation to the school.

The public is invited to experience the IDEA Center and meet Gallagher this Saturday, Oct. 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at Upland’s Hack Your Halloween event. For more information contact Mr. Gallagher at lgallagher@uplandcds.org. There is no fee to attend and it is open to students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
