KENNETT – Wednesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting went to the dogs, as Township Manager Lisa Moore gave an update on the benches that are being created by a local woodworker for installation in Barkingfield Park.

Caitlin Abate, from HoneyBadger Woodworks in Kennett Square, is currently working at the park site to create six adult-sized benches and four mushroom-shaped stools out of wood sourced from the surrounding area. After they are completed, she will also be making a smaller set of benches that can be used by children. Moore added that the Lions Club will be donating eight benches made out of recycled materials to the park.

The board held an executive session prior to the meeting to discuss a legal matter. Vice-Chair Whitney Hoffman gave a brief report on the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors Conference, which was held last weekend in Hershey.

“The classes were great, and I think we brought back a lot of good knowledge and things we can work for the township,” she said.

In other news, the Kennett Township Historical Commission will be hosting a presentation called “March to the Brandywine” on Thursday, May 11 at 7 pm at the township building, located at 801 Burrows Run Road. Speaker and historian Walt Chiquoine will be discussing his research about the route that the British Army took through the area between September 8 and 10, 1777. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
