HARRISBURG — State Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-160) was assigned to serve on the House Consumer Affairs Committee during the 2015-16 legislative session. Barrar will also serve as the chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.

“Being a member of the Consumer Affairs Committee will allow me to take the issues and problems that face my constituents who are dealing with consumer matters to the legislative table,” Barrar said in a statement. “I will be able to help craft and mold legislation, alongside my colleagues, that will address issues such as identity theft, malpractices of debt collection agencies and the like. It is an honor to be a part of such an important committee that will make an incredible difference in people’s daily lives.”

The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.

The House Consumer Affairs Committee reviews all legislation that protects buyers, such as the Credit Card Information Act, Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.

Barrar will continue as the majority chairman for the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, which oversees legislation dealing with veterans’ issues, disaster relief, homeland security, fire and emergency services matters, and the readiness of our Pennsylvania National Guard.

“I also look forward to continuing my service to Pennsylvania’s veterans and first responders,” said Barrar. “With the new session comes new goals to accomplish. I am ready to get to work on behalf of our veterans and emergency responders, who deserve to have their needs to be championed.”
