Sheriff’s 3rd annual cruise night to benefit K-9, Friday

ClassicCarWESTTOWN — The Chester County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit will host its third Annual “Cruise Night” from 5:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m, Friday evening at the Government Services Center Building located at 601 Westtown Road, just of US-202.

Chester County Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh and her deputies have organized the event to bring awareness to the six K-9 units in the Chester County Sheriff’s Office which provide services to all law enforcement agencies in the five-county region. Proceeds from Friday night’s event will assist the K-9 units for training and equipment.

“The Sheriff’s Office is excited to once again present this great event. It gives us an opportunity to show the citizens our beautiful canines and their handlers,” Welsh said. “Our K-9 Units and other community outreach programs greatly benefit from this event. We greatly appreciate the support from our many sponsors.”

The basic cost of a dog, including training, is more than $15,0000. Once certified, both dogs and handlers require continued training and recertification. A fully trained experienced K-9 team is valued at more than $30,000. There are seven K-9 teams in the Chester County Sheriff’s Office. They provide narcotics, explosive and accelerant detection. They are also used for patrol, tracking, search, and tactical operations. The Sheriff’s Office K-9 division uses a proactive preventative approach to provide public safety and security at large events.

Those attending Friday night event will get a chance to meet the Chester County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit and its extraordinary canines: Sabre, Leo, Yukon, Afra, Buster, Jessie and Denise. In addition to great cars ranging from classic to modern muscle and motorcycles, there will be a night of fun including a DJ, food and drinks! The event is rain or shine — although the current forecast is nearly perfect.

Public admission is free and show vehicles are free. Donation checks can be made payable to CCSK9 and mailed to Chester County Sheriff’s Office C/O Harry McKinney at 201 West Market Street Suite 1201 West Chester, PA 19380.

The Sheriff’ Office would like to thank the many event sponsors, including the title sponsor: Frank C. Videon.
