KAPRB plans Kids X-County run, July 17, more events in 2014

Kids 14 and under can run in Thursday’s Kids’ Cross Country Run at Anson B. Nixon Park, the first of many events planned for this summer and fall by the Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board.

KENNETT — The Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board is swinging into a busy summer and fall schedule of events, kicking off this week with 2014 Kids Cross Country Race,

Later this year, KAPRB will put on the the Mushroom Festival 5K Race, and KAPRB Summer and Fall programs.

First up is the KAPRB Kids Cross Country Run:  This event is scheduled for this Thursday, July 17a t Anson B. Nixon Park.  Children will run a 1.5 mile race course as part of the free event for any child ages 14 and under who would like to run. Prizes, drinks, ice cream and tee shirts will be distributed to runners. Event winners will receive trophies. Registration begins at 6 pm with the race starting at 7 pm. The next big event this year is the  KAPRB Mushroom Festival Race.  The seventh Annual Mushroom Festival/KAPRB 5K Run and two-Mile Walk  will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7. The race start time is 8:30am. Runners will start at Kennett High School and proceed down South Street to Route 82.  Runners will continue down Route 82 going just past Manfreidi Drive, and then turn around to head back to KHS.  Registration forms are available online at www.mushroomfestival.org .  All proceeds from this event go back to local charities and non profit organizations.

In addition to these two big running events, there are a complete schedule of KAPRB Summer Clinics:

KAPRB Field Hockey Summer Clinic – July 28 – August 1st.  Register today for this fun and instructional clinic to be held at Kennett Middle School from 9am – 12 noon.  Registration available atwww.kaprb.ticketleap.com or www.kaprb.com

KAPRB Basketball Summer Clinic – July 28- August 1st.  This fun, instructional clinic will be held at Bancroft Elementary School from 9am – 12 noon.  Registration today at www.kaprb.ticketleap.comor www.kaprb.com

KAPRB Fall Programs include:

KAPRB Volleyball Program. Registration is now open for children in grades 2-6 to learn volleyball skills and game strategy. Children enjoy fun scrimmages!  Practices will be held twice weekly in September and October  Registration forms at www.kaprb.com or register online at www.bluedemonssports.com.

KAPRB Field Hockey Program.  NEW! KAPRB Blue Demons Field Hockey is kicking off this fall!!!  The program is open to student athletes, grades 1st-6th, residing in the Kennett Consolidated School District.  Our mission as a non-profit organization is to provide a fun, safe and competitive environment devoted to promoting educational, recreational and competitive field hockey activities for elementary & middle school students.

Our Field Hockey program will be structured similar to girls lacrosse with three age groups:  Grades 1 /2, Grades 3 / 4, and Grades 5 / 6.  We will have a combination of practices and games at all levels against other local leagues.  Grades 1 / 2 will have about 4 days of games, while the 3 /4s and 5 / 6s will have about 7-8 days of games.

Registration for Fall opens on June 20th and closes August 22nd. The season runs from September 2nd through mid November with 1-2 practices during the week and games Saturday mornings. For more information please visit www.bluedemonssports.com
