I am a former corporate dentist for one of the largest chains. When I accepted the position in 2011, I was under the impression it was the most ethical chain, but production was the only real concern of the people in charge. Many great practitioners were let go, due to not meeting exorbitant production goals, which are much higher than what is expected in private practice. Although the company states it cares about quality, the doctors with the highest numbers, and lowest quality work, were the ones who received reinforcement, including promotions. I would advise all clinicians to stay away from corporate dentistry!

Do NOT accept any job offer from a corporate dental chain. They will work you like a MACHINE. Do NOT voice your opinion. Things will not change. Just leave. DO NOT sign a contract. All I can say and stress to you is to RUNAWAY. It is not worth the $. The article and comments are very true!

Yeah its terrible that we have to choose providers
Because of insurance! What a terrible and haphazard way to choose our care. I currently work for a dental chain. I've always been told that i deliver excellent patient care, but in corporate dentistry they don't appreciate that. It's all about production numbers and I can't possibly go fast enough. All day they keep adding more patients although we are already overloaded. I want to get back into private practice and hopefully get some relief. It stinks to have free dentistry but I can't get in the chair because there's no time for me!

Great article Stephanie, you sum up what is going on in dentistry quite well. There can really be a potential compromise for patients by accepting these corporate entities.
